November 22-23, 2004
NEEDS, EC project
New Energy Externalities Developments for Sustainability (NEEDS, EC project)
Kick-off meeting of research stream 2a: “Energy systems modelling and internalisation strategies, including scenarios building”
The NEEDS project aims at evaluating the full costs and benefits (i.e. direct + external) of energy policies and of future energy systems, both for individual countries and for the enlarged EU as a whole. 80 participants will work for four years to improve and merge three methodologies: technical economic programming modelling of energy systems, Life Cycle Assessment of alternative products and processes, ExternE. The EC supports the program with about 7M€. A 25+ member state MARKAL-TIMES model of Europe is part of the deliverables.
