TIMES Climate Module Update
This project updated the default assumptions in the TIMES climate module to reflect our understanding of climate change from the IPCC AR6 reports, through two different calibration approaches. It also generalised the climate module to enable users to add any number of direct or indirect greenhouse gases (GHGs), with indirect GHGs affecting the lifetime of direct GHGs. This approach was tested with using fugitive as an indirect greenhouse gas that increases the lifetime of atmospheric methane.
The outputs from this project are:
- A climate module file for VEDA that demonstrates how to use the new generalised climate module to represent hydrogen: Scen_ClimParamAR6_1_5deg_new_h2-methane-only.xlsx
- An updated TIMES climate modules that is generalised and has IPCC AR6 default values (TIMES v4.9.3)
- Updated TIMES Documentation Part II Appendix A to describe the generalised climate module and new default values
- A report on the two approaches used to calibrate the TIMES climate module to IPCC AR6: times_climate_module_ipcc-ar6_update_v1.pdf
- A revised climate module for the ETSAP-TIAM model: Scen_ClimParametersExoForcingLLGHG.xlsx
- A report on the climate module generalisation and hydrogen test: times_climate_module_generalisation_v1.pdf
