Energy Security in Ireland to 2030

The Government of Ireland published a new energy security strategy in 2023 entitled Energy Security in Ireland to 2030 – Energy Security Package. The goal of this new policy package is to strengthen Ireland’s approach to risk and resilience, taking an integrated, systemic, medium-term view of where we can do more and how. It follows a two year review of energy security policy that was prompted by the Russian invasion into Ukraine and the energy security issues arising from that. It focussed on electricity and gas systems security and contains a complementary stand alone report Securing Ireland’s Gas Supplies, which assessed potential risks to Ireland’s natural gas security of supply, to review policy options that may enhance Ireland’s security of gas supply and to present recommendations.
IrishTIMES modelling informed the analysis of future gas demand scenarios, exploring high and low demand pathways consistent with Ireland’s carbon budgets to 2050.
