Armenia 2021
Energy Sector Development Strategic Program to 2040

Armenia’s Energy Sector Development Strategic Program to 2040 sets the vision and priorities for a secure, sustainable, and competitive energy system. The TIMESArmenia model supported this longterm strategy by identifying leastcost pathways for meeting national energy needs while maximising renewable energy use, improving efficiency, and maintaining energy security. The modelling explored options for expanding solar and wind power, strengthening regional interconnections with Iran and Georgia, extending the life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, diversifying supply sources, and gradually liberalising the electricity market. Special attention was given to electrification in transport and residential heating, and the integration of storage to enhance renewable deployment.
