Collaboration with the TCP Energy Storage on modelling issues
In 2020, the IEA Energy Storage TCP launched Task 32 to develop an open-source modelling platform for energy storage. Given the increasing importance of storage technologies in deep decarbonisation scenarios in TIMES, collaboration between ES TCP Task 32 and ETSAP was mutually beneficial. The report highlights the main outcomes, including:
- Data related to energy storage technology characteristics such as costs and efficiencies.
- Data associated with the operation of energy storage technology like load profiles, price profiles, renewable energy profiles.
- Descriptions of energy storage models that are highly detailed in capturing the technical constraints and physical properties of various energy storage technologies.
Additionally, the report provides a SubRES file with guidelines for modelling energy storage in TIMES.
