Advanced TIMES Veda training and knowledge-sharing
Topic 1 – Modelling to Generate Alternatives (MGA) and Multi-Objective Optimisation (MGO). This topic showed how TIMES can be used to explore near-optimal solutions and alternative objectives beyond cost minimisation. Through hands-on examples, participants examined transition pathways under objectives such as emissions reduction, energy security, household costs, and land use, illustrating the flexibility of TIMES for multi-objective analysis.
Topic 2 – Accounting for Material Supply Risks. This topic demonstrated how supply risks of critical and strategic materials can be integrated into TIMES models. It presented approaches to introduce material constraints and risk indicators for energy supply and demand technologies, supporting the analysis of more resilient energy transition strategies.
Topic 3 – Advanced Trade and Grid Modelling. This topic presented recent advances in electricity and gas grid modelling in TIMES. Examples showed DC power flow representations for electricity networks and gas grid modelling with linepack and compressor requirements, enabling more realistic and high-resolution analysis of complex energy systems.
